The Markthal is situated next to the Blaak public transport station, which is only 400 meters away from our floating H2OTEL.
On October the 1st 2014 the first indoor market hall was opened in Rotterdam. The market offers a varied shopping experience; shopping, restaurants, parking possibilities, working and living under one spectacular roof. Markthal Rotterdam is developed by architect office MVRDV.
On the inside of the bow (roof), the biggest artwork of the Netherlands can be seen: The Horn of Plenty by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam.
Inside the Markthal, you can also find the ‘’time-stairs’’ which is an archeologic-exposition of discoveries made dating back to the medieval city Rotterdam. These archaeologic discoveries were made during the construction of the Markthal. This exposition will show you a piece of history of old Rotterdam. The time-stairs are opened daily and free of charge.
The Markthal is opened 7 days a week, on Monday until Saturday from 10.00 AM until 8.00 PM (on Friday the Markthal is opened until 9.00 PM) and on Sunday from 12.00 until 6.00 PM. The Markthal consists of 100 ‘’fresh’’ units, 15 food shops, 8 restaurants and 228 apartments.
